FAQ's

Yes, Rockstar Pools is headquartered in Meridian, Idaho and serves all of the Treasure Valley, all of Idaho, Western Montana, and Western Wyoming.
We build concrete or “shotcrete” in-ground pools and spas. We *do not* install fiberglass or vinyl-liner pools.
Yes, having in-ground concrete swimming pools in Idaho is very common. Winters are very cold in Idaho, but summers are very hot! The swimming season in Idaho goes from May through the end of September. If you have a spa built in with your pool, or a standalone spa, they are designed and equipped to operate year-round, no matter the cold temperatures.
No. Although it is very common for swimming pools to have automatic, electric safety covers, it is not a requirement on its own. If your backyard is fully fenced so that the pool is not accessible to neighbors, you are not required to have an automatic, electric pool cover. The safety code requires that your perimeter fence meets certain dimensions and widths of pickets or mesh material. Also, any doors exiting your home and having direct access to the pool area must have safety door alarms. Of course, all these commonsense safety measures are to prevent children from gaining access to the pool without adult supervision. A Rockstar Pools designer can explain these options in more detail when meeting with you.
Not really. While there might be some small benefit in water temperature from having a pool covered, it typically isn’t enough to justify the cost of installing an automatic pool cover system.
The main benefit of an automatic pool cover, other than safety/peace of mind, is that the pool cover can prevent some of the yard debris (leaves, pollen, insect, dust, etc) from being blown into the pool water. However, all this debris that exists in your backyard does accumulate on top of the pool cover, and it must be carefully and routinely removed prior to retracting the pool cover.
Yes. Rockstar Pools will design and install the proper plumbing system and pool equipment so that the two bodies of water can be used separately from each other during winter.
In short, it means that the pool plumbing system is serviced by a pool service technician at the end of the swimming season, and the plumbing lines are blown out by air compressor. This process is often called “closing the pool”. The pool equipment (pumps, filter, heater, etc) are also emptied of any water and turned off for the winter so that water does not freeze within them and break the pipes or equipment. The water inside the pool is typically drained down below the waterline tile and the pool water returns are plugged to keep them dry for the winter. The pool water can then be allowed to freeze over the winter. In the spring, the same pool service technician will return to “open the pool”, which means that they fill the pool back to a proper level, prime the pumps and equipment, and begin balancing the pool water with the proper chemicals to achieve the required chemistry to begin swimming again.
The spa must utilize the “freeze protection” system that is built into the circulation pumps as well as the computer control system for the pool and spa. A specialized gas heater that is especially designed to operate through the winter will need to be installed that can maintain the spa water in the 65–70-degree range and then also be able to heat the spa water up to the desired temperature in an on-demand scenario. This system is the most efficient way to have a spa operating year-round.
Yes. Rockstar Pools has built many of these spectacular pools. With few exceptions, your design options are limitless.
A “saltwater pool” is a common way that people describe utilizing salt as the means of sanitizing your pool water. Essentially, the salt chlorinator system installed at the equipment pad uses the salt that has been diluted into the pool water and it creates its own natural form of chlorine which kills bacteria, algae, and any organic debris or molecules in the pool water. The pool water is not sticky or “salty” like ocean water. Rather, the water feels very similar to water in a home that is run through a soft water system. The result is a sparkling clean pool and pool water that is very nice on your eyes, skin, hair, and bathing suits. Our Rockstar Pools designer can explain the salt chlorine pool in more detail in your meeting.
Generally, once forming and excavation begins, a typical pool or pool/spa combo will take 6-10 weeks to be completed. Obviously, there are many factors that contribute to how long this project will take. Bad weather is often the biggest factor in delays. Sometimes, if one of Rockstar Pools crews is delayed on another project, it will impact them getting moved onto your project. This is a situation that we all must accept. Rockstar Pools will not simply find some other, unproven crew to do the work on your pool simply to keep the schedule moving. We feel this is a bad practice and leads to bigger disappointments than being behind a few days or a week on your pool by waiting for our crew to get there.
Diving boards are often thought about and asked about with swimming pools. They are something we all remember and associate with our childhood memories of swimming. However, diving boards are one of those things that are great in theory but not that great in reality. We have installed many diving boards over the years. Most times, they end up not being used much after the novelty of the new pool wears off. Having a diving board also requires the pool to be longer and much deeper than most clients expect, and this leads to a significant increase in overall cost. The trend in the pool construction industry over the last decade or two has been that diving boards are fading away in popularity. Also, our liability insurance will no longer allow us to install diving boards without significant increases in premiums. So, the answer is “No”, Rockstar Pools no longer install diving boards.
The answer is: it depends, but in most cases, no. The technological advancement in pool pumps and lighting has been incredible over the last 20 years. The pumps that we install nowadays are incredibly efficient and powerful. In most cases, a typical pool filtration pump uses the equivalent electricity of a 100-watt light bulb. The overall electricity usage for a pool is determined by many factors. Is there a waterfall pump? Is there a jet pump? Is the pool being heated by a gas heater which requires the pump to be running for longer hours. In general, our experience is that the electrical usage of our clients with their new pool is not something that is significantly noticeable to them.
In all our residential projects, we recommend a cartridge filtration system. The cartridge system is easy to maintain, does not require weekly or monthly backwashing or cleaning (as sand filters or diatomaceous earth filter systems do). The pool water stays perfectly clear of any debris particulates in the water.
Yes. All Rockstar Pool projects have natural gas or propane pool heaters installed. These heaters can heat the pool to a comfortable temperature, even in the coldest of days. Often, our clients only utilize the pool heater at the beginning of the pool season, and later at the end of the pool season to extend their swimming a few weeks. If your pool also has an attached spa, the same pool heater that is used for heating the pool will be used to heat the spa as well.
Yes. If one of our clients wants a pool slide, we will absolutely design and install one for them. However, we do not install the old style, blue colored fiberglass with the aluminum ladder. Those types of old slides are totally out of favor and in our opinion, dangerous. We will spec and install a deluxe slide that is fun, long-lasting, and most importantly…... Safe. Please make sure to mention your desire to know more about the deluxe slides when meeting with your designer.
Rockstar Pools has very skilled crews that can install poured concrete decking in a variety of finishes and colors. We also have the ability to install paver decking in both natural stone, or commercially manufactured interlocking pavers. Each material has its positives and negatives. Your designer will discuss all these aspects so that you can make the best decision possible.
Rockstar Pools can offer everything from the traditional white “marcite” type plaster, to the newer quartz stone finishes, to “pebble” aggregate finishes. Your designer will go into detail on these options with you.

Generally, the pool construction is warranted similar to what a new home warranty is, which is a one-year period. The pool equipment comes with its own 3-year manufacturer’s warranty, and the plaster has a 5-year warranty. Your Rockstar Pools designer can go into more detail on how you are covered for your big investment.
